Wet Cat Foods and Recipes

Wet foods contain higher levels of digestibility, fat and protein, and carbohydrates than dry foods. It is important and protective for the urinary bladder and kidney health of cats, which tend to consume less water than their high water content requirements.

Since the digestibility and absorption of the oils in the wet foods are higher, the health of the feathers and skin also improves. Given the loss of nutritional values of one-way nutrition, cooking or the drawbacks of raw foods, wet foods become an option as an option.

In cats that feed on continuous dry food, the risks associated with nutrition will grow exponentially every year. However, by providing nutrition with both wet and dry food, flavor options will increase and valuable protein sources will be provided. The ideal cat nutrition is provided with 50% wet food and 50% dry food.

If a cat does not eat wet food, it may be due to its dependence on dry food or not being hungry enough to try something new. In accordance with your cat’s eating habits and program, give only a small amount of wet food in the morning and evening.

If it does not eat after 1 hour, sprinkle it with a small amount of dry food that it is used to. After eating dry food, it will taste the taste of wet food from the tip and will reach the taste of wet food. Your cat will get used to eating with wet food after two days at most.

What is Wet Cat Food?

Wet food is produced in a different process than dry food. In general, meat is mixed with by-products, cereals, vegetables, oils and minarets, water and gelling agents. Then it is ground to be mashed. And then it is partially cooked in a steam tunnel to make it solid and products are cut into cubes by cutting with knives.

Thus, the product looks like a real piece of meat and it is filled with gel or sauce and placed in a container or can. Then the container is closed and cooked in a pressure cooker for 2 hours to ensure sterilization. Due to these process conditions, it is very difficult to produce a fully balanced wet food as nutrients, and an additional nutritional supplement is generally required in daily nutrition. Today, there are different qualities of wet food sold in Turkey.

Most of them are low-quality foods produced with very little meat by-products and sugar added, with a high water content of 80-85%. In addition, people think that when the chicken or chicken meat is written on the box, chicken meat suitable for human food is used in food. However, in Europe, a producer must understand that if the rate of chicken or chicken meat is on the can or package, it may be chicken organs or chicken flour.

Wet or dry foods with full nutritional value are suitable for cats in continuity and sometimes cats may prefer one to another. Since cats cannot get enough water from dry food, care should be taken to have a container of clean and fresh water next to the food.

Is Wet Cat Food Harmful? Is it Healthy?

Wet foods are especially important for meeting the need for water for cats that do not consume water. They are foods containing 75% water in the content of wet cat food. The water in the wet food also helps the food to be digested easily.

Cats are susceptible to kidney diseases. Cats fed with wet food will decrease their chances of getting kidney diseases as water intake will increase. Age foods made with healthy and high quality ingredients have no harm for cats.

However, while purchasing wet cat food, it is absolutely necessary to pay attention to its content. When looking behind the foods, the first ingredient must be meat. In addition, it is sold in foods where cereals such as rice and corn are used at high rates. Cereals are often used to lower costs and increase weight.

Wet foods with high grains may not be the right choice for a healthy diet of cats. In addition to these, feeding the cats constantly with wet food can cause various health problems.

Dental diseases are the leading health problems. Because wet food can increase tartar formation and lead to dental caries and even tooth loss. Cats should be given balanced food and dry food. Cats can gain weight quickly if they consume more food than they need. Because wet foods are delicious and appetizing foods.

Overweight, on the other hand, can cause many more diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Therefore, it is important to balance wet and dry food.
